Names Of Famous Dog Shows For Your
Vacation
By far and away the king of them
all is the " Westminster Kennel Club " dog
show.
This is the super bowl of dog show names. People from all over
the world come to New York with their dogs hoping to add their
names to the list of famous show dogs and show dog owners. There
are many other famous and popular dog shows around the world that I
would recommend, for not only the show dog owner, but also the fans
who attend dog shows. Just go online and Google "names of famous
dog shows" then proceed to plan your vacation around a dog show for
the very first time.
Newcastle Dog
Show
The name of this dog show has English roots that go back
hundreds of years. In those times dogs were used, almost
exclusively, to herd sheep and hunt. Informal dog shows were being
held in pubs and clubs across England years before the first
official show in 1859. This show was held in Newcastle, England and
was organized by a committee of local hunters. The local hunters
used almost exclusively pointers and setters, so that is what made
up the first official show. There were only three judges in this
first show, which pales in comparison to the hoards of judges that
roam the floors of Madison Square Garden today.
National Dog Show-Birmingham,
England
Later on that year another dog show was held in Birmingham,
England, where spaniels were allowed for the first time. This show
was made up of 80 dogs in 14 different classes. In1860, basset
hounds were welcomed as part of the Birmingham show for the first
time and they were the hit of the show. The basset hound today, as
it was back then, continues to be the most popular breed of dog at
dog shows around the world. The name of this dog show now appears
in the history books as the world's oldest surviving dog show in
the world.
New Westminster Dog
Show
This is the oldest surviving dog show in the United States. The
world's biggest named dog show is currently held in Madison Square
Garden every year and broadcast on national television. The first
show was held in 1876 at the Westminster Hotel in New York City.
This show is the oldest sporting event in America, with the
exception of the Kentucky Derby which began two years earlier.
Many times I have thought of future names of my dogs while
attending a famous dog show while all along admiring the beauty and
discipline of the animal.
Good Luck on your first vacation planned around a dog show!
P.S. Don't forget your dog.
